Self-Worth
Self-worth is based around the idea of valuing yourself and believing that you are worthy of love and, indeed, worthy as an individual. Having a good sense of self-worth is important for leading a happy, fulfilling life. Unfortunately, for some people, a poor sense of self-worth can develop in childhood and, if untreated, persist into adulthood, often having an inhibiting and, even harmful, effect on a person’s life.
Suicide
Suicidal feelings happen when the pain and torment become so overbearing, we simply can’t see any other way out. That doesn’t mean that it’s not there; it just means that we’re unable to see it. It’s like blinkered vision. It may not seem like it right now, but you can overcome these feelings; it and the pain that is causing it, will pass. What’s important is that you get the right support.
Abuse
Child abuse and neglect have profound and lasting effects on children, leading to issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Various forms of abuse—physical, verbal, emotional, and sexual—cause significant harm. The impact varies based on factors like the child’s age, abuse type, and available support. Understanding these factors is crucial for addressing and mitigating the abuse’s effects.
Fear
Fear can be natural and protective but can also be debilitating for teens. Common fears include rejection, criticism, change, and failure, which can hold them back from achieving their potential. Addressing these fears early is crucial. Parents can help by having open conversations, and therapy options like CBT and Exposure Therapy can assist teens in managing and overcoming their fears.
Relationships & Adolescence
Adolescence is crucial for forming relationships, including family, friends, and romance. Healthy connections with parents and adults set the foundation for future interactions. Dating and friendships build social and emotional skills, while parents balance guidance and independence. Positive adolescent relationships shape future interactions.
